ABC Dice game - a centuries old spelling game by Collective Wisdom (tm). In 1693, educator John Locke recommended the use of alphabet dice, so that children may gain a knowledge of letters...without perceiving it to be any thing but sport. These early educators recognized the link between play and learning. Young scholars wre delighted and challenged to spell-out words with each new roll of the dice. The alphabet was not standardized to 26 letters until the late 18th-century. Most early alphabets had only 24 letters and did not contain the letters j and u. To make the dice game a more appropriate learning tool for today's child, the letters j and u are included.
In centuries past, alphabet dice would have been made of wood, ivory or animal bone. These dice are made of a material that stimulates the look of old hand-carved ivory. The particular size of the dice is also based on early accounts.
Warning! not for children under 3 years.
Each set comes with 8 dice and sets of rules for the older and younger child. Recommended for ages 5 through 10. The abc dice game can be adapted for enjoyment by anyone, from 5 to 95, who enjoys word games.
