Exploration, Vision & Influence The Art World of Brattleboro's Hunt Family The Bennington Museum, Bennington, Vermont June 23 through December 31, 2005 Paul R. Baker, Sally Webster, David Hanlon, and Stephen Perkins
The Hunt family of Brattleboro, Vermont, driven by a mother's vision of education, exploration, and the fine arts, influenced the course of Gilded-Age American culture like no other family of the time. William Morris and Richard Morris Hunt are acclaimed by students of history and culture for their achievements in art and architecture. However, it is not widely recognized that their siblings Jane, Leavitt, and Jonathan, and their mother, Jane Leavitt Hunt, had as much to do with their success as any other factor. This exhibition explores the artistic talents of the entire family and the unique influence the members had upon one another.
