Forgotten Heros of the American Revolution - John Stark, Live Free or Die by Karl Cranneli

An experienced soldier with a reputation for being cool under fire, John Stark was chosen to lead troops from New Hampshire when the American Revolution began in April 1775. Stark's men played a key role in the Battle of Bunker Hill, but his mort important came in 1777, when a Bristish army led by General John Burgoyne threatened to cut off New England from the rest of the colonies. Stark's victory at the Battle of Bennington in August crippled the British plans, and Burgoyne was forced to surrender at Saratoga two months later in one of the war's major turning points. Years later, Stark summed up the spirit of the Patriots who had joined him in taking up arms against British tyranny: "Live free or die!" he declared. "Death is not the worst of evils." Hardcover, 80 pages.
